Back when he was just another star, Frank Thomas was immortalized with this small caricature.
Since then, however, Frank put up some great numbers and was told he was probably headed for Cooperstown.
The “Big Hurt” clubbed 521 home runs in his 19 seasons and hit over .300 in his first eight seasons. He was the American League MVP in 1993 and again in 1994, garnering 100% of the votes cast in the first year.
The winner of four Silver Slugger awards, Thomas was chosen for five All-Star Games. His incredible 41.9% on-base average was buoyed by AL-leading marks four times, including 48.7% in 1994. He also led the league in on-base plus slugging those same four seasons (1991, ’92, ’94 and ’97). Add to that topping the AL in walks, offensive win percentage, and runs created four years each, and you have one of the greats of the game.
