A seven-time All-Star, Parker was nicknamed the Cobra for his quick bat. Oddly enough, the year he was voted the National League Most Valuable Player in 1978 while with Pittsburgh (and won a Gold Glove), he was not an All-Star selection. That year, he led the NL for the second straight year in hitting with a .334 average, was first in slugging percentage, OPS, total bases and intentional walks.
He finished with three Gold Gloves, three Silver Slugger awards and three total bases titles.
In addition to playing 11 seasons in Pittsburgh, Parker also toiled for Cincinnati, Oakland, Milwaukee, California and Toronto.
